Sual: Putperest, puta tapan, ateşperest ateşe tapan demek olduğuna göre, tapmak anlamına gelen perest kelimesini kullanarak hayalperest, menfaatperest demek caiz olur mu?

Perest, sadece tapmak anlamında değildir. Seven, çok seven anlamında da kullanılır.

Hayalperest, hayal kurmayı seven, hayal peşinde koşan; menfaatperest, çıkarını seven, hep kendi menfaatini düşünen kimse demektir. Bunlar gibi, Hakperest, hakkı seven, hak taraftarı demektir. Şehvetperest, şehvetine düşkün demektir. Bu kelimeleri kullanmanın mahzuru olmaz.
